The aim of the project EUROPEAN TRAINING FOR COORDINATE METROLOGY 4.0 is to design, implement and validate a set of tools and learning content to improve and upgrade education in Coordinate Metrology. New interactive tools for the assessment of individual learning needs will enable the identification of customised learning paths and related assessment of learning outcomes. Updated material on latest coordinate metrology technologies will be distributed through a smart platform, available on different devices and offline too, to comply personal learning attitudes.
Practical work using measuring equipment will be part of the education. A learner-centered approach with industrial case studies will be used to motivate learners and let them understand the industrial relevance of the topic. To enhance access for all, the learning material will be distributed adapting to the individual learning style. Learners will select the preferred tool (tablets, web-based learning platforms or printouts) for the best learning experience.
The analysis of course feedback over the last ten years, covering a number of over 900 participants out of industry and universities, shows that there is a big demand in learning material to include: Interactivity in learning material using media and practical work on measuring systems Comprehension questions included in the learning material with immediate feedback Creation of an efficient learning path, taking pre-knowledges and experience into account Creation of an effective learning path, including only the topics of major interest
For gaining practical knowledge, it is of high importance for the learner to be involved in practical experience and in the usage of coordinate metrology equipment, which is expensive and therefore not available in every location where learning actions take place. During the project, a system for enabling remote access to measuring equipment for learning purpose will be developed. This will allow participants to work virtually with the measuring devices independently of their distance to the device. The system will allow participants to have a reality-near impression of the handling and the behaviour of the equipment, under the supervision of a tutor. The main target group of the project are industry employees, in particular those operating in SMEs that are newcomers on 3D measuring technologies. This led to the decision of structuring the learning modules with 2 levels of competences LEV1 is able to autonomously perform simple coordinate measurements according to good measurement practice, perform basic programming, and execute automatic measurements and simple data processing.
LEV2 knows more complex GPS indications, is able to select the most suitable CMS, design the whole measurement process, evaluate measurement results, manage measuring environment and infrastructure including calibrated standards.
For both levels, the learning content is structured based on the activities workflow of the coordinate metrology operator. This organisation of learning material highlights the effective choice of contents to be proposed, with an operative and practical point if view. Each of these sections contain several chapters with learning units that deliver the content to the learner.
Each learning unit starts with an action-oriented learning aim description, which is the basis for the content development. Learning units will be available in different languages, including English, French, German, Italian and Portuguese.
